Born in Belgium in 1982, violist Dimitri (“Dima”) Murrath is in his second year of the Artist Diploma program at New England Conservatory. A student of Kim Kashkashian, Dima is the first violist to be accepted into the Artist Diploma program. His recent performances include recitals at Jordan Hall, Palais des Beaux-Arts ( Brussels), Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room ( London). A n advocate of contemporary music, Dimitri has recorded and given numerous first performances of new music by English and Belgian composers.
Dima began his studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Natalia Boyarsky, and went on to work with David Takeno at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama (London). He has won awards from the Hattori Foundation, Musicians Benevolent Fund and Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, the Belgian American Educational Foundation, the Belgian Foundation for Young Soloists and NEC’s Presidential Scholar Award.
